North Carolina Governor's School is a six-week long program that takes place during the summer. Only twenty percent of applicants get accepted into the program. In Onslow County only eight students were accepted, two of which are Molly McAbee and Lauryn Hyatt of Richlands High School.

"There was a long application process," Molly said about applying. "It was basically a college application," Lauryn stated about the application. To be eligible to apply, students have to be a rising junior or a rising senior and have to have a GPA of at least 3.5. The program selects the highest academically ranked students from all over North Carolina.

"It is an honor to be accepted," Lauryn exclaimed about being accepted. "I always told myself just to do my best and hopefully that would be enough," Molly explained when asked about what keep her going through the whole process. "Never stop working hard, it always pays off in the end," Lauryn said.
